I'll start my study today with the Gospel Principles manual chapter 8 on praying to our Heavenly Father. I really liked this quote from the manual: "All of our thoughts, our words, and our actions are influenced by our prayers (p.35)." I liked how it talked of praying with a sincere heart and real intent.

I read all of the additional scriptures referenced and also the entry in the Bible Dictionary on prayer. In that, there were some things that stuck out to me: "The object of prayer is not to change the will of God, but to secure for ourselves and for others blessing that God is already willing to grant, but that are made conditional on our asking for them."

"Blessings require some work or effort on our part before we can obtain them. Prayer is a form of work, and is an appointed means for obtaining the highest of all blessings." One way that I enjoy praying is to write my heartfelt, sincere prayers down as if I am writing a letter to my Heavenly Father.
