Tonight I read Alma chapter 21. Two things stood out to me. The first is the hard heartedness of the Lamanites. They challenged and questioned with a "who do you think you are" type of attitude. This stood out to me because it is very important to me to always check myself and keep myself in line with the principle of having an open heart and an open mind. A person who is open truly listens and is willing to ask the question, "Could I be in need of changing this or that about myself?" A person who is hard hearted and closed does not even consider looking inward or sincerely questioning inward. They ask questions like these Lamanites did... "Are not this people as good as thy people?" "How knowest thou we have cause to repent?" "How knowest thou that we are not a righteous people?" In essence, their attitude is "Who do you think you are?" "What are you saying... ?" I want to always be committed to being open in my heart and mind. I have found I have grown and learned the most about myself and others by being open to consider something I never would before.

The second thing that stood out to me in this chapter is the example of Lamoni's people. For on, Ammon taught them daily and with all diligence, and they listened and obeyed! "They were zealous for keeping the commandments of God." I love that example and it is one I strive to emulate. It brings so much peace and joy into my life as a result of my obedience. I love to obey.
