I read Alma 46:1-10. In these verses it talks of the cunning of Amalickiah and how people were led away by his cunning words and their own greed for power. This was so close to after they won the battle with the Lamanites because of God's help. "Thus we see how quick the children of men do forget the Lord their God, yea how quick to do iniquity and to be led away by the evil one." I think this was an important example Mormon wanted to include in the record probably in the hopes that future generations would choose to remember the Lord their God and not be so quick to forget his blessings.
